There's something almost transcendent about looking up into the night sky with friends and family waiting for that first spark of fireworks to begin.

We go see these spectacular displays to celebrate our country's freedom but there’s an even bigger idea they can represent: A promise that light will always find its way through the darkness.

Being part of a community celebration like the Highland Community Fireworks Celebration our friends at Immanuel Baptist Church put on for the 4th of July can help you experience something fun and positive that your family can have as a memory together.

But we also love the fact that thousands of people will get together that night for more than just a fireworks show.

Yes, it’s a way to have fun with the family, but it’s also a way to feel more connected to people we’ve never met before simply because we have several big things in common – we all live here, we appreciate our freedom, and we get excited about huge sparkly light shows in the sky!

You might actually come away with some new friends!

So if you’re heading to the Highland Community Firework Celebration with our friends at Immanuel Baptist Church or any of the other celebrations on our around the 4th of July, we hope you remember this when you look up: there is hope even on the darkest nights.

By the way, we’ll miss being with you in-person at the celebration this year but hope you’ll tune in to 89.7 KSGN on the way home after the show and let us be with you on the radio! 🙂
