"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."
Fred Rogers
The devastation caused by the LA County fires is beyond words—rubble where homes, businesses, churches, and entire communities once stood. Abandoned cars, destroyed homes, and miles of streets now unrecognizable. Entire neighborhoods consumed by flames, and the lives of countless people turned upside down. As we continue with our normal lives across the Inland Empire, it’s difficult to fathom what so many are going through. But in the face of such loss, many are responding with hope, prayer, and action.
People are coming together, praying for God’s protection and provision during this difficult time. Others are giving generously to organizations like Convoy of Hope, a trusted group on the ground, offering essential aid to those in need. Some are physically showing up to volunteer, offering their time and energy to help in whatever way they can.
One example of this generosity is Sandals Church Azusa, which has been actively distributing supplies to those affected. They are committed to standing with these communities as they rebuild. We talked with their Associate Pastor Will who shared “We are called to love our neighbor and this is what it looks like when the church is being the church in the community.”
In a similar spirit, one of our co-wrokers, alongside her best friend, felt called to help. Their journey began in Azusa and led them to Pasadena, where they witnessed countless people joining forces in grassroots efforts to support one another. After donating goods, they were directed to the Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia. Another example of community coming together to meet the needs of those affected. A great display of generosity and love of people helping each other.
If you feel moved to help, know that prayer is powerful—and we invite you to pray with us on Facebook and IG with our Prayer Pauses. Because prayer is truly the most important thing we can offer. Tangible ways to assist include donating to Convoy of Hope or other trustworthy organizations committed to recovery efforts. In times like these, we are reminded that being part of a community means we are never alone. Together, we can stand strong and support one another through the toughest of times.
